Early on in my parenting journey, I struggled with my strong-willed daughter. I’m a mom of three daughters – two young adults, and one school-ager. I know firsthand the challenges that can come with parenting, including sensory issues, ADD, anxiety, and neurodiversity, to name a few. I started my professional journey in music therapy, where I worked with children with a wide variety of special needs. More recently, I spent nearly a decade in children and family ministry where I was able to create and build a special needs ministry to provide support to children and their parents. Not long after we had our third child, we learned about Connected Families and its many resources. This grace-filled framework to parenting has totally changed our family dynamics after years of trying a wide variety of approaches. I have a passion for facilitating personal growth and development in children and guiding their parents in that process. For many years, we pursued help for our sensitive and intense child without success. By the teen years, our family was spiraling out of control. We sent our child to a therapeutic boarding school, but it didn’t produce the promised change in our family. It wasn’t until we found Connected Families and began to change the way we were parenting that we experienced a significant breakthrough. Partnering with a Connected Families coach and learning to utilize the parenting framework brought hope and changed the trajectory of our family. I have a passion for working with parents of young children so that they might avoid the pitfalls we made in our parenting journey. I also have a heart for working with parents of pre-teens and teens so that they know there is always hope for a restored relationship and an opportunity to change the future. The simple and effective teaching of Connected Families helps me recognize what’s really going on in me that drives my reactions to my children, helps me have compassion for what is going on in my children, and provides practical tools to guide them with love and connection that builds wisdom and responsibility. Before Connected Families, I was reading so much about the latest brain research and didn’t really have the skills to apply it to my Christian parenting. When I learned how Connected Families incorporates the latest brain science, therapeutic research, and Biblical truth into a beautiful, grace-filled plan, I knew we were onto something amazing. Many parents feel overwhelmed and stuck in patterns that just aren’t working. As a parenting coach, I help them confidently implement a grace-filled parenting strategy so they can relax, enjoy their families, and find new hope. My greatest joy is watching parents who have struggled in their relationship with their kids experience transformation through new skills, perspectives, and mindsets- whether in one-on-one sessions, small groups, or workshops. I’m a mom of two young adult children and “like a mom” to two other young adults who have experienced significant developmental trauma. Parenting has been full of ups and downs for me, and I often wish I had known the Connected Families framework when my kids were little- it would have made things so much easier and deepened our connection earlier. Even so, I’m grateful that today I enjoy connected, though not perfect, relationships with my kids. Along with my personal parenting journey, I am a licensed Family and Early Childhood Educator with more than 25 years of experience working with young children and their parents. I’ve also had the privilege of supporting and training teachers in the U.S., Haiti, and the Dominican Republic, including teaching the Connected Families framework at conferences and in schools. By the grace of God, I have been involved in children’s ministry at different levels for more than 20 years. Children are gifts from God and they are given for purpose. As it is written in Ephesians 2:10 “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good work, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” This is not only for adults, it includes children. So, parents are responsible for helping children to fulfill their calling. I am always telling parents that parenting is not an option. The Connected Families Framework changed my attitude and approach to parent training. We need God’s grace and wisdom to serve and save children for eternal life. We have to encourage and learn from one another for good work. I am living in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia where I work in children’s ministry for Wycliffe Ethiopia Bible Translation Association. As an adoptive parent, I understand the parenting challenges unique to families formed through adoption. In addition to parenting, I have had the privilege of working as the Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) Coordinator for my county since 2018, with children in foster care who have experienced the trauma of neglect and abuse. I bring encouragement for strengthening families through virtual one-on-one coaching, small group coaching, and in-person workshops. I accept clients from any location, as I do all my parent coaching sessions virtually. I would love to come alongside you in your adoptive/foster parenting journey. In November of 2023, I attended an adoption conference in Des Moines, IA. I saw a picture with the Connected Families Framework, which drew me in to take a closer look. When I saw that this was Biblically based, I wanted to learn more, and I became a certified Parent Coach in November 2024. I am continually learning and applying the Framework, so that I can encourage and equip parents on how to help their children find their unique identity and beliefs about themselves. In my own Connected Families coaching sessions, it was revealed to me that I wasn’t as “safe” a parent as I thought I was. I am now looking at myself first and trying to be a better listener. It is never too late to change! I have four children, six years apart. My oldest two are biological, and my youngest two were adopted internationally from Taiwan, making us a multiracial family. They are all young adults now, so I have experienced every age and stage from preschool through high school and beyond. Family is sacred, and over the decades, my faith has grown into a closer union with God. I seek comfort in the Lord to be patient as I wait upon the Holy Spirit to lead my husband (and high school sweetheart) to put his faith in Jesus. We help parents have peace and a plan for living the intentional life they deeply desire with their kids. We knew we wanted to disciple our kids to know and love Jesus, but the daily chaos of homeschooling four kids and running a business, along with sensitive and intense temperaments among us all, left us feeling reactive, angry, controlling, and disconnected from our kids. Connected Families parent coaching brought the peace and plan we needed to be the kind of parents we wanted to be – ones who do not find our identity in perfect parenting but who receive God’s grace and truth for ourselves and then pass that on to our children. As Connected Families certified coaches since 2021, we help parents become more confident in who they are in Christ, and from this foundation, begin to enjoy close, connected relationships while discipling their children to grow in wisdom. When I first got to know about Connected Families, I was working with young adult orphans and at-risk children in Latvia. The Framework transformed my thinking and really helped me serve these children better. During my parent coaching studies, the Lord brought my husband to my life. I moved back to Finland, we got married, and I became a stepmom to two teenagers. Having worked with orphans, I have adoptive and foster parents on my heart and would like to support them through the Connected Families Framework. I have also led a center for victims of human trafficking and their children in Cyprus. Serving in this ministry gave me insight into parenting challenges that these precious women faced.
