How to start your small group online course

Gather a group from your church, your friends, your community, or your neighborhood, and lead a  Connected Families small group! Our small group course options are always available and are on-demand.  Each small group member gets their own ongoing access to the course material!

  • Step 1: Choose your small group parenting curriculum.
  • Step 2: Decide the range of how many households in your church/group will be participating. If the number grows, no problem! Contact us, and we’ll work it out.
  • Step 3: Register using the easy-access options provided OR if purchasing more than 15 licenses, fill out our large group form.
  • Step 4: Distribute the registration links to your small group and invite them into the course.

GREAT NEWS:  The content for our individual courses and the small group courses are exactly the same. The biggest difference is that there isn’t commenting, moderation, or an online community in the small group options. This allows you to build community within your group!

Questions you might have

Here are some of the frequently asked questions. Contact us if you have any other questions! We’ll do all we can to get back to you within 24 hours.

Should I host my group virtually, or does it have to be in person?

The choice is up to you. You can establish the format of your group prior to registration or survey your members to see what works best for them.

How long do you recommend each meeting be?

That’s up to you. We generally recommend 90 minutes if you’re watching videos outside of group and 2 hours if you’re watching within the group.

Do we watch the videos together, followed by a discussion? Or should I have the members watch on their own time and save our meeting time for discussion?

Either way is fine. You know the makeup of your group and how much time they can allot to meet.

Note: Watching the videos within a virtual group isn’t ideal, especially for our longer courses, Discipline that Connects and Sensitive and Intense Kids. A 90-minute virtual group with longer videos will have limited discussion time, and a 2-hour virtual meeting may lose energy by the end.

How do I handle payment?

Small group leaders are responsible for setting their own rates and collecting payments from their group members. Rates can vary depending on the group.

If need be, you can wait to pay the small group fee until group members have paid you, (i.e. one week before group start time.) At that time you would get the full small group leader’s guide and the link for the participants to access the course.

How much do I charge per person?

  • If you are leading the course as a ministry, you may choose to divide the cost of the course (plus any extra expenses) by the number of participants (counted by household), or not charge anything at all. We suggest charging at least a small registration fee so that members have some ownership in the group.
  • If you are leading the course as part of a parent coaching business, you can charge a registration fee that includes the cost of the course plus an extra amount to compensate you for your time, knowledge, leadership, and any extra expenses.
  • Here is a formula to calculate your charge:
____ (total cost of course based on estimated group size) + ____ (prep time + group time) x ____ (desired wage/hour) ÷  _____ (estimated group size) = ____ (how much to charge per individual).

Does CF supply marketing tools for the leaders?

Yes, included in the leader’s welcome email is a style guide with a promotional video, logos, and graphics for each of our online courses.
